Joy Brackstone, eWatch Shoreline volunteer at Movie in the Park for NSYHD.
Held to coincide with National Secure Your Home Day (NSYHD), the event attracted more than 300 residents from across the Redland Bay area. Families and neighbours enjoyed a film under the stars, a range of street food options and the opportunity to meet one another and strengthen connections in this growing community.
The NHW Queensland gazebo became a natural meeting point on the night, prompting friendly conversations about home security, personal safety and the increasing importance of online safety. Attendees engaged warmly with the eWatch Shoreline team and made good use of resources provided by Neighbourhood Watch Australasia. The children’s colouring competition, information leaflets and small giveaways were particularly well received.
While eWatch Shoreline usually connects neighbours through digital platforms, the event highlighted how online networks can support meaningful face-to-face connections. The evening was a clear reminder that when neighbours take the time to come together, strong community bonds can grow, sometimes beginning with something as simple as a shared movie night.
