Together, these activities strengthened local connections, promoted practical crime prevention, and demonstrated the value of community, police, and business working side by side.

The week began at Bunnings Carseldine, where Carseldine 4 NHW joined QPS and Bunnings staff for a well-attended community engagement event that also marked the launch of the QPS Tool Theft Prevention Strategy. Tradies and local residents stopped by throughout the morning to learn more about preventing theft and protecting tools and vehicles, with the relaxed setting encouraging open conversation and shared learning.

Carseldine 4 NHW volunteers were a visible presence on the day, engaging with community members under the group’s marquee and discussing local safety issues, the role of NHW, and ways residents and businesses can work together to reduce crime. The event also provided an opportunity to grow local connections through the group’s online channels, supporting ongoing communication beyond the day itself.

Building on this momentum, Carseldine 4 NHW hosted a community barbecue at Bunnings Virginia the following weekend. Supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, the event combined fundraising with hands-on crime prevention. A popular feature was the anti-theft number plate screw service, coordinated with police support, which provided a simple and effective security upgrade for vehicles in the local area.

The day also highlighted positive engagement between police and the community, with police recruits volunteering their time alongside NHW members. Their involvement was warmly received and reflected a shared commitment to community service and prevention.

Funds raised through the barbecue have since been reinvested directly into local safety initiatives, including the purchase of additional anti-theft number plate screws to support future crime prevention activities.
