Keeping Kids Safe Online

Neighbourhood Watch Australasia (NHWA) in collaboration with the Australian Federal Police (AFP)-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE), is proud to launch a powerful new series of Community Service Announcements (CSAs) focused on “Keeping Kids Safe Online”.

The CSAs are part of NHWA’s continued commitment to crime prevention and community safety, addressing the growing threat of online child sexual exploitation.

Through relatable family scenarios, the series has been created to raise awareness about the importance of online safety for children and highlights the critical role parent, carers, and the broader community play in keeping children safe from online child sexual exploitation.

The Keeping Kids Safe Online series, comprising five 30-second television commercials and five 30-second radio ads, focuses on five essential topics:

1. Appropriate Supervision
Understanding the importance of age-appropriate supervision when children are online. Parents and carers play a crucial role in setting healthy boundaries and keeping kids safe by staying involved in their digital lives.

2. Check Privacy Settings
Encouraging parents/carers to regularly review and adjust privacy settings on games, apps and online platforms to limit exposure to potential predators.

3. Have Open Communication With Your Child
Reinforcing how making online safety part of everyday conversations with your child can help protect them from online harm, and ensure they feel safe and confident to come to you for help if something does go wrong.

4. Take Action: Report Online Child Sexual Exploitation
If you know of or suspect any form of online harm towards a child, don’t wait — REPORT IT!

5. Take Action: Support
If something does go wrong online, children need your reassurance and support. This message focuses on how to respond supportively and access the right resources, helping parents/carers navigate difficult situations with care and confidence.

This initiative builds on the success of our earlier campaign, launched in 2023, which focused on helping families navigate online safety.

Let’s work together with our kids to ensure they’re safe from online dangers.
